Learning Objectives

Knowledge of stylistic and material features of the 14th century Italian poetry and of its manuscript tradition, particularly in Petrarch’s works.

Knowledge of the textual problems of the 19th century Italian poetry.

Knowledge of the basic elements of literary lexicography and of the main problems involved in the creation of concordances and data bases related to the 19th and 20th century Italian poetry.

Knowledge of the methods of author’s philology.

The problems and the texts included in this course are strictly connected with the methods and the problems of Romance Philology.



Detailed Course Content

A Manuscript Vat. Lat. 3196: history and description, marginal notes, textual relationships with the original manuscript of Rerum vulgarium fragmenta (Vat. Lat. 3195) (2 CFU).

B Philology and tradition of poets in Leopardi’s poems: Ad Angelo Mai e Ultimo canto di Saffo (2 CFU).

C Literary lexicography, concordances and data bases. Some applications to 20th century Italian poetry (1 CFU).

D Author’s variants: theoretical basis and textual applications (1 CFU).
