Learning Objectives

The course aims to give methodological tools for an appropriate knowledge on musical dramaturgy and to set opera theatre in the European history of Arts and culture.



Detailed Course Content

The first part of the course will be devoted to the methodological foundations of the discipline.

The second part will be dedicated to Mozart’s operas and to their influence on the development of modern musical theatre; and to the comparison of Elektra by Richard Strauss and Erwartung by Schönberg and to the study of the cultural context (literary, artistic, philosophical) of the early years of the twentieth century
