Learning Objectives

The course aims to provide the students of Classical Philology with the coordinates of the European Indo-Europeanization process, first (in prehistoric times), and the formation of linguistic Europe as it is presented today, then (between the end of the 1st and the 2nd millennium). In the perspective of a) to present an overview of the theoretical and historical problems of the formation of the European linguistic framework, also in the light of typical situations of medieval and modern Europe, of different periods and geographical and historical-cultural context, and b) to reflect, with historical awareness through theoretical models of linguistics, on the dynamics of language change and conservation.
