Learning Objectives

Knowledge and Understanding Capacities:

At the end of the course the students are expected to:

- be able to solve problems corresponding to the advanced C1 / C2 level and have acquired the skills of these levels.

- be able to think over their own language skills according to the language model "language-as-problem, language-as-right, and language-as-resource" (Ruiz 2013, "Orientations in Language Planning")

- identify the different varieties of Spanish.

- be able to understand and annylize texts able to understand specialized texts of different fields (legal, political, scientific) and non-standard language (Spanglish, jargon)

- have a profound knowledge and understanding of the political and cultural topicsand phenomena discussed during the course.

- be able to produce short specialized texts and short critical essays in Spanish.

-analyze and understand text as a communicative unit and understand its configuration.

-make a textual commentary on a pragmatic and lexicological-semantic level

- identify and know the textual mechanisms of cohesion.

 

Abilities and Skills to Apply Knowledge and Understanding

At the end of the course, the student must be able to do text commentaries of the following types:

Chronicles
Reportages
Opinion columns
Critical essays
Statutory or regulatory texts
Legal texts
Scientific texts
Literary criticism texts.
Audiovisual texts (documentaries, songs, advertising)
Interviews and biographical profiles

Critical Thniking skills:

At the end of the course the students must be able to:

- analyze texts of diverse pan-Hispanic typoligies.

- critically apply the readings in the program.

- create a corpus of texts of the different types in the program.

Communicative skills:

At the end of the course students will be able to identify the different varieties of standard and non standard Spanish. Furthermore, they are expected to be able to participate in debates on topics corresponding to a C2 level

Learning skills:

At the end of the course the students must have developed a critical knowledge corresponding to their linguistic level as well as be able to analyze and criticize texts of different types and dialectal pan-Hispanic varieties.
