## Learning Objectives

• APPLIED PHYSICS

THE MAIN OBJECTIVES OF THE COURSE ARE: TO ACQUIRE ESSENTIAL KNOWLEDGE OF THE CLASSICAL LAWS OF PHYSICS; TO BE ABLE TO EXPRESS RELATIONS BETWEEN PHYSICAL VARIABLES BY USING THE INTERNATIONAL SYSTEM; TO KNOW SOME MEASURING INSTRUMENTS AND HOW THEY OPERATE; TO ACQUIRE THE PRELIMINARY PHYSICAL KNOWLEDGES FOR THE FOLLOWING COURSES; TO KNOW THE MAIN FEATURES OF THE BIOMEDICAL INSTRUMENTATION.

This course provides the basic theoretical knowledge about the use of a computer, hardware and software, about the applications of informatics in health care settings, as well as providing practical knowledge on the use of an operative system and of the office suite (Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Access).

 1) Introduction: The scientific method - The physical quantities. 2) Mechanics: Scalar and Vector quantities - Motion -Inertia - Force and Acceleration - Action and Reaction - Impulse and Momentum - Work and Energy - Gravitational interactions. 3) The properties of matter: Structure of matter - The solid state - The liquid state - The gaseous state - Fluid dynamics. 4) Thermodynamics: Heat and Temperature - The thermal expansion - The heat transmission - Status changes - The principles of thermodynamics. 5) Acoustic: Oscillations and waves - The sound. 6) Optics: The light - Reflection and refraction - The color - Diffraction and Interference. 7) Electromagnetism: Electrostatics - The field and the electric potential - Electric current - Electrical circuits - The magnetism - Electromagnetic Induction - Electro- magnetic waves. 8) Biomedical instrumentation and Applications
