Learning Objectives

The aim of the course is to provide the students with the required competences in order to understand the ongoing demographic processes that are changing the world territorial structures. One of the key topic is the international migration. It is an important factor with respect to the global economy, as well as to cultural and social changes. The goal is to stimulate critique skills through the analysis of intervention policies and experiences of international cooperation about migration.



Detailed Course Content

Demographic processes on a global scale. Relations between demographic dynamics and development in some macro-regions of the world. International migration in the twentieth century. Theories and models of global migration. Development and migration: experiences of cooperation between Italy and Senegal. Mobility and migration in Italy from the Unification to the present. Foreign immigration in Italy.
