Learning Objectives

PHYSICAL MEDICINE AND REHABILITATION
The aim is to provide therapeutic intervention knowledge conducted in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation .
Musculo-skeletal system diseases in pediatric age
The aim is to provide general knowledges about the musculoskeletal diseases of the developmental age, focusing on orthopedics and traumatology.

The goal is to provide to the student the main notions about diagnosis andtherapeutic prescriptions of orthopedic and traumatology surgeon, in order to identify the appropriate rehabilitation program following a trauma in the developmental age, to carry out the ideal functional rehabilitation in congenital deformities or in orthopedic diseases of the developmental age, and to train the patient in adoption and use of prostheses and orthosis.

Detailed Course Content

PHYSICAL MEDICINE AND REHABILITATION
Rehabilitation of children with cerebral palsy:
Definition of cerebral palsy, etiology, cerebral circulatory disorders in children pre-term role of the germinal matrix and oligodendrocyte in the genesis of cerebral palsy, classification of cerebral palsy, assessment of the child (general movements, observation of spontaneous activity, clinical examination, assessment scales GMFCS).
Clinical characteristics of children with cerebral palsy: spasticity, lack of inhibition of the flexor reflex, changes in rheological properties of spastic muscle, negative symptoms. Pictures of the way the disease. Associated disorders in cerebral palsy. Type of rehabilitation. Target physiotherapy intervention. Target of drug treatment. Botulinum Toxin and baclofen. Baclofen pump. Treatment with orthoses and its target. Prefabricated and customized orthoses. Ankle-foot orthosis. Orthosis knee and hip. Materials used in the construction of orthoses. Surgical treatment and its target. Lengthening of the Achilles tendon, stretching the muscle-tendon junction, tendon transpositions, Splatt. Interventions to de-bone rotation.
Enabling children with Down syndrome:
Multidisciplinary rehabilitation project. Specific programs for the acquisition of gait. Methods of assessment of motor and cognitive skills. Programs for the acquisition of autonomy.
Rehabilitation of children with myelomeningocele:
Definition of myelomeningocele. Clinical picture. Multidisciplinary rehabilitation project. Rationale and use of orthoses.
Rehabilitation of children with muscular dystrophies: classification of the main clinical forms. Speech rehabilitation: physical therapy, orthotics and surgery
Musculo-skeletal system diseases in pediatric age
The course is based on the main orthopaedic and traumatologic disorders in pediatric age, highlighting: epidemiology, etiology, pathogenesis, clinical features, imaging investigations, differential diagnosis, prognosis, complications, conservative and surgivcal treatment.

Observation, testing, comprehensive approach and principles of treatment

Rehabilitation in water in the outcomes of cerebral palsy
