CONSERVATION OF ARCHIVAL AND BOOK MATERIALS

The course aims to deepen the issues concerning archival arrangement methodologies as well as the questions related to the preservation of archival and book material considering new information technologies.

Traditional lectures and guided tours in the archive and in the library

A. Retrace the history of the archives and deepen the topics on the arrangement and inventory of historical archives as well as on the research tools created with the help of the most advanced software adopted in Italy.

Deepen the crucial issue of the transition from analogue archives to digital archives and examine the requirements, methods and systems for the production, archiving and preservation of electronic documents

B. Library history and special issues on library conservation, with focus on census, cataloguing, digitalization of library materials. Cataloguing projects related to 15th century printed books: the “Incunaboli a Catania” project.
