Learning Objectives

Applied Medical Sciences Techniques
To acquire knowledge on the main diseases of the central and peripheral nervous system and to correlate them with speech therapy.

To understand the mechanisms, and the related possibilities of adaptation, of the main neurological diseases of interest for speech therapy.

To know how to apply theoretical knowledge and evaluation techniques to the diagnosis, prevention, treatment, and rehabilitation of the main speech therapy diseases.
Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation
THE COURSE AIMS TO LET STUDENTS KNOW THE SPECIFIC TOPICS OF INTEREST IN REHABILITATION MEDICINE. THEREFORE WILL CONCERN THE DEEPENING OF THE MAIN TOPICS COVERED BY THE REGULATION, INCLUDING THE FRAMEWORK OF THE DIFFERENT AREAS OF REHABILITATION, REHABILITATION TEAM, REHABILITATION TECHNIQUES IN THE SPEECH THERAPY, FREQUENTLY ASKED PATHOLOGIES.

DURING THE COURSE THE PRESENTATION OF RELATED SLIDES AND VIDEOS WILL BE USED FOR THE TREATMENT OF THE TOPICS SUBJECT TO STUDY. Learning assessment may also be carried out on line, should the conditions require it.

Detailed Course Content

Applied Medical Sciences Techniques
Review of general organization of the nervous system and principles of neurorehabilitation.

Approach to the patient and neurological examination.

Clinical and rehabilitative features of the main neurological diseases of interest for speech therapy: disorders of cortical functions (aphasia, agnosia, apraxia); cognitive impairment and dementia; acute cerebrovascular diseases (stroke, cerebral hemorrhages); epilepsy and other disorders of consciousness; traumatic brain injury; Parkinson's disease and other movement disorders; multiple sclerosis; amyotrophic lateral sclerosis and other motor neuron diseases; cerebellar ataxia; infections of the nervous system; spinal cord diseases; peripheral neuropathies; neuromuscular diseases.

Rehabilitation and Rehabilitation Team. Rehabilitation legislation, ministerial guidelines for rehabilitation activities, rehabilitation plan, rehabilitation project and program, rehabilitation outcomes, rehabilitation codes, intensive rehabilitation, extensive rehabilitation, hospital-territory integration.

Language disorders, aphasia, Neglect, Bedside examination, Dysphagia, Dementia, Neuromuscular and demyelinating disorders, Severe acquired brain injury, Infantile cerebral palsy and speech therapy management. Evaluation and design of the main posture systems, speech therapy aids,
