Learning Objectives

Knowledge of stylistic and material features of the 14th century Italian poetry and of its manuscript tradition, particularly in relation to Petrarch’s works.

Knowledge of the textual problems of the 16th century Italian poetry.

Knowledge of the basic elements of literary lexicography and of the main problems involved in the creation of concordances and data bases related to the 19th and 20th century Italian poetry.

Knowledge of elements and theories concerning digital philology and digital scholarly editions.

The problems and the texts included in this course are strictly connected with the methods and the problems of Romance Philology.

A The philological studies in Italy: historic outlines and methodologies (1 ECTS).

B The last poems of Petrarch’s Canzoniere: phylological problems and textual interpretation (2 ECTS).

C The composition of Pascoli’s poems: the manuscripts of Poemi conviviali (1 ECTS).

D Literary lexicography, concordances and data bases. Some applications to 20th century Italian poetry (1 ECTS).

E Scholarly digital editions (1 ECTS).
