Learning Objectives

The course aims to provide students with a general knowledge of the concepts and methods of the discipline, to deal with the description and analysis of the linguistic levels (phonological, morphological, syntactic, semantic and textual) according to the scientific approach of modern Linguistics.

The course aims to offer the students also the skills necessary to consciously use the latest / most recent tools of Italian lexicography, for effective use of the vocabulary of the language in its various occasions.

 

Through laboratory activities, students will:

• acquire the necessary phonetic transcription skills (useful for example in consulting any dictionary, Italian or foreign);

• learn to represent the morphological structure of Italian words according to some theoretical models;

• understand and represent the syntactic structure of Italian sentences, comparing Italian with other languages.


Course Structure

I will combine the frontal lesson with other operational methods (interactive lesson) to rise interest and participation, also with the support of multimedia. If students will require it, I will use recovery and enhancement techniques, with clarifications and additions as well.

Detailed Course Content

The course is divided in two modules.

A. Fundamentals of Linguistics: levels of linguistic analysis (phonetics and phonology, morphology, syntax, semantics); linguistic typology; textual linguistics.

B. Vocabulary and dictionaries: linguistic research and multimedia technologies, lexicon, usage dictionaries.
