MODULE 1 (6 CFU) – Management of cultural enterprises
Cultural organizations increasingly need to develop management strategies to realize their objectives paying attention to their potential visitors/audiences/users, and to the financial constraints that may hinder their activities. Cultural/arts management has developed as a full fledged discipline.
This course will familiarize students with the theory concerning management of cultural organizations. The starting point is that cultural organizations such as museums, venues, musical societies, creative enterprises possess special characteristics from an organisational point of view that influence the way they operate.
Students will learn to connect theory to practice by referring to existing research and by conducting their own small research project where they will apply the theoretical notions to actual cases.
MODULE 2 (3 CFU) Strategies for cultural and creative industries
To provide the analytical knowledge that allows to understand the state of the art as for cultural and creative industries (CCI), considering, in particular, the strategies adopted and that could be adopted at the national and international level to boost the development of the sector in Italy and Europe. Students will be able to apply this knowledge originally and critically looking at national and international examples. To provide the methodological tools useful to apply the knowledge acquired to solve new problems, using a multidisciplinary approach and exercising critical skills. To learn to use information from different sources being able assess critically strategies adopted for the CCI considering their effects for society at large.

MODULE 1 (6 CFU) – Economics and management of cultural organizations
Introduction: the economic approach; management in the cultural sector: basic notions; examples of cultural organizations: museums and archaeological areas, libraries, archives, theatres, opera houses and festival; strategies; management; planning and control; the role of marketing; case studies; funding cultural organizations; fundraising; cultural tourism.
