Knowledge of the essential elements of Latin paleography from the archaic age to the late ancient and early medieval age. Knowledge of the scripture, and the documents of different nature.

Knowledge of the essential elements of the history of ancient book and its evolution: volumen and codex.

Knowledge of the methodology and use of papyri, tablets, ostraka, inscriptions, for the reconstruction of political history, social, economic and cultural of ancient Rome.

Acquisition of reading ability of ancient documents, epigraphs, papyri, parchments and their geographical location.

Traditional, helped by new technologies for the reading of ancient documents.

The birth of paleography and its historical development. The Latin scripture. The ancient book (volumen and codex). Palimpsest on parchment. The early medieval scriptures.

During the lessons documentary papyri, inscriptions, manuscripts and other documents will be showed and discussed.
