The course aims to provide students of logopedics, the theoretical bases of linguistic communication and human phonetics and the elements and methods of analysis necessary to understanding the mechanisms underlying linguistic development and the child's acquisition of language.
1) To define, from a theoretical-technical point of view, the anatomical-functional structures dedicated to language and deglutition.
2) To identify, within the normal stages of psychomotor development, the characteristics of communication in the first years of life.
3) To know the theories on learning and the physiological development of language and its various aspects.
4) To know the development of metaphonological, pragmatic and narrative competence.
5) To know the development of reading and writing.

The difference between "natural or human language" and "historical languages". Child language acquisition. "Suprasegmentals" and the "musicality" of language. "Segments" or units of sound: the vowel and consonant sounds of Italian and English. Phonetic transcription.
- Anatomy and physiology of the voice, speech, language and swallowing: voice and vocal behavior, phonatory breath and pharyngo-buccal district, regulation and dynamics of speech.
- Stages of psycho-motor development. Characteristics and development of communication in the first years of life.
- Theories on learning and normal language development: articulatory, phonological, semantic-lexical and morpho-syntactic development.
- Development of meta-phonological, pragmatic and narrative competence.
