Learning Objectives
- To know hygiene rules and the behaviour of a speech therapist in their profession
- For the students to acquire the correct tongue posture both during phonation and when at rest, and the correct use of the voice
- To develop the ability of observation of communication style, language use, voice and swallowing in adults and subjects of developmental age
- To acquire the ability of phonetic transcription and administration of observational grids
- To identify the behaviours and adequate communicational modalities towards patients with hypoacusis or stuttering.

Detailed Course Content
- Adequate behaviours in the rehabilitation setting: regulations regarding attire, hygiene, interpersonal skills, communication and language styles of the speech therapist.
- Practical exercises of myofunctional therapy.
- Observation of phases of swallowing in the different ages: developmental, adult and senile.
- Practical exercises with the help of “observational grill” to develop observation skills of postural and structural aspects of the baby and the adult
- Observation and analysis of the relationship and communication with particular attention to pragmatical, semantical and morphosynctaxical aspects.
- Practical exercise of phonetic transcription of statements during conversations or film clips.
- Study and administration of specific tests for the evaluation of language in nonpathological subjects
- Study of the rehabilitation chart, how to set up a therapeutic reasoning
- Observation of expressive and receptive linguistic competence in hypoacusic patients in developmental age, importance and role of gestures in language development
- Behaviours and correct communication modalities in relation to stuttering patients
- Management of emotions of the therapist and the patient, ability to remain centred in the helping relationship
