1
Knowledge and understanding
The module poses the basics of organization science and public management
applied to health systems, starting from the concept of organizational culture,
professional bureaucracies, and professionalization of labour.
2
Applying knowledge and understanding
Students learn about the problem of new public management applied to health
provisions, via the implementation of efficientist recipes, and the respective
possible failures. The module discusses extensively the pros and cons of new
forms of welfare state implementations in the scenario of increasing needs and
dwindling public resources, leading to the multi-player governance.
3
Making judgements
The modules teaches that it is important to refrain from "judging"
colleagues and other professionals involved in the psychotherapist services.
Instead, the module proposes to address a comprehensive vision to the psychotherapist
rehabilitation.
4
Communication Skills
Students are encouraged to understand the importance
and the respective difficulties in working in a multidisciplinary team. Not
only the dialogue with patients is key to actually deliver their care; also,
the way cooperation is attempted, proposed, and nurtured is key to improve
patients' experience, and as well professionals’ satisfaction and mental
health.
5
Learning skills
Students are encouraged to search for information at
official sources to understand the organization they are delivering their
job. Students are also encouraged to learn the essentials of governing
complex systems like the health services via the steering at the distance
governance, namely, albeit not exclusively, via ex-post evaluation metrics.
Students learn the impact of their actions in relation to ameliorate
institutions' performances.
