Expected Learning Outcomes

By the end of the cours the students will reach the C1 level of linguistic-communicative competence according to the CEFR.

Course Structure

Dialoguing, frontal and participatory lessons, linguistic training, seminars, translation and reflection on translation practice(s)m, aspects ad varieties of the German language, of the teaching of German as a foreign language and of the history of German.

Required Prerequisites

Linguistic-communicative skills at B2 level of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages. This knowledge is taken for granted through the evaluation of the applications for admission to the first year of the study course in Linguistic Sciences for Interculture and Education for the academic year 2022-23; they can be verified through a test at the beginning of the year. In case of gaps in the mastery of the prerequisites, personalised training and in-depth activities will be implemented.


Attendance of Lessons

Attendance, as per the regulations of the Cds in "Linguistic sciences for interculture and education", is optional.


For students who are unable to attend lessons, a personalised programme of exercises has been prepared which will be published on Prof. Di Clemente's web page and on the German language page on the Studium educational platform. Non-attending students must in any case register on the Studium German Language page to receive all communications relating to the course, and are warmly invited to contact the course teacher and the CELs at the beginning of the academic year or as soon as possible to plan a personalised study programme. In addition to the exercise programme, non-attending students will also carry out the homework (translations, summaries, comprehension and grammar exercises) provided for the attending students and published in the German language page on Studium.

Detailed Course Content

The course activities aim to empower and improve the knowledge and use of the German language through a linguistic and metalinguistic reflection  (text reading, text composition, translation, focus on lexis, grammar and syntax, linguistic varieties, elements of diachronic linguistics, aspects of the teaching of German as a foreign language).

Learning Assessment

Learning Assessment Procedures

The written test is preparatory to the final oral exam and will consist of four tests: listening comprehension, comprehension of a written text, written text translation from German into Italian and translation from Italian into German. It will be allowed to use a monolingual and / or bilingual dictionary. In order to pass the exam, it will be indicated only if the exam is a) passed, b) not passed or c) passed with reserve (with the possibility of recovering the part that is not fully sufficient during the oral exam). The written test with the relative evaluation judgments, regulated through a specific grid (which will be given adequate publicity), will be accessible to students at the reception for viewing the written test.
The final oral exam will consist of a discussion on the topics of the course and the discussion of a written Referat of 8-10 pages (Times New Roman 12 pt, line spacing 1.5), with annotated bibliography, submitted to the teacher at least one week before the exam, on a topic of literary, linguistic, social or cultural interest chosen by the student and illustrated during the exam in the form of a Power Point presentation. Please do not recycle any papers carried out in previous academic years or during other courses and do not make a mere copy-and-paste of paragraphs taken from the texts consulted.
For the evaluation in the final oral exam, the mastery of the contents and the skills acquired, the linguistic accuracy and lexical properties, the ability to acquire and critically sift sources, as well as the argumentative ability and the demonstrated linguistic fluency and confidence will be taken into account. by the candidate / candidate and their autonomy in the search and processing of information. The evaluation will be expressed out of thirty. Sufficiency is achieved when one is able to place the arguments exactly according to space-time and cultural coordinates, is able to grasp at least the essential aspects of a topic and, in the case of written and / or oral exposition in German, one expresses oneself effectively.
The evaluation criteria of the oral exam, in their detailed form, will be adequately publicized.
N.B. Non-attending students
For students who are unable to attend classes, a program of exercises has been prepared which will be published on Prof. Di Clemente's web page and on the German language page on the Studium educational platform. Non-attending students must still register on the Studium German Language page, to receive all communications relating to the course, and are warmly invited to get in touch with the teacher of the course and with the CELs at the beginning of the academic year to plan a personalized work programme. Non-attending students, in addition to the alternative programme, will also carry out the homework (translations, summaries, comprehension and grammar exercises) provided for those attending.
