AGRICOLTURA, ALIMENTAZIONE E AMBIENTE (Di3A)Environmental and landscape planning and sustainabilityAcademic Year 2022/2023

9795832 - IDRAULICA AMBIENTALE E GEOLOGIA
Module ELEMENTI DI GEOLOGIA PER LA PIANIFICAZIONE TERRITORIALE

Teacher: Agata DI STEFANO

Expected Learning Outcomes

The course aims to provide students with knowledge of the main geological processes responsible

for the shape of the terrestrial landscape.

Some basic elements will also be imparted for the recognition of the most common types of rocks.

Therefore, at the end of the course, students will acquire knowledge regarding the following topics:

a. exogenous and endogenous processes;

b. transport and sedimentation processes;

c. lithologies and relief forms;

d. brittle structures and relief forms;

e. ductile structures and relief forms;

f. hints of stratymetry;

g. relationships between strata arrangement and slope morphology.

h. classification and macroscopic recognition of major rock types.

Course Structure

The course will take place in the classroom with lectures and practical examples given by the teacher.

Required Prerequisites

No propedeucity.

Attendance of Lessons

Attendance is strongly recommended.

Detailed Course Content

Part I: Exogenous and endogenous causes responsible for the shape of terrestrial relief.

Chemical and physical factors of terrestrial erosion; sediment transport and deposition processes;

relationship between lithotypes and relief shapes; tectonic processes and relief shapes.

Part II: elements of stratigraphy and tectonics.

Brittle geological structures (faults); ductile geological structures (folds); bedding of strata; relationships between strata arrangement and slope morphology.

Part III: Lithogenetic process; classification and macroscopic recognition of major rocks.

Volcanic, metamorphic, sedimentary processes; macroscopic classification schemes of rocks;

macroscopic recognition of major volcanic, metamorphic and sedimentary rocks.
