Purpose of the course and to give the student the basic training indispensable for a fundamental figure in the multidisciplinary context of the Senology or Breast Unit center. The TSRM in fact directly collaborates with the doctor radiodiagnosta, radiotherapist and nuclear and carries out, based on medical prescription, in autonomous way or in collaboration with other health figures, investigations that require the use of ionizing radiation both artificial and natural, of thermal energies , ultrasonic and magnetic resonance.
The technical skills must also be accompanied by adequate sensitivity, empathy and communication skills, in order to make the exams and procedures less stressful for the patients, to obtain good compliance from them and an understanding of the instructions.
To this end, the TSRM must have a basic knowledge of the anatomy, physiology and pathology of the breast, including physical and radiological semiological aspects including breast after surgery, radiodiagnostic techniques, analogical mammography, but above all digital, tomosynthesis and CAD, echography, magnetic resonance imaging, Nuclear medicine (sentinel lymph node techniques, PET), radiotherapy, bioptic and retrieval methods.
Lectures, slides and videos
Should teaching be carried out in mixed mode or remotely, it may be necessary to introduce changes with respect to previous statements, in line with the programme planned and outlined in the syllabus.
Notions of anatomy, physiology and mammary pathology - Equipment for breast imaging - Analog mammography (where still used) - Digital mammography - Mammography tomosynthesis - Mammography with contrast medium (MdC) - Automatic breast ultrasound - Magnetic resonance, with reference to senological use - Standard and complementary mammography projections - Mammography in women with aesthetic prostheses - Mammography after surgery (reconstruction with and without prosthesis) and after radiotherapy - Mammographic compression pain: real incidence and its prevention - Radioprotection principles (ALARA) and them application in breast examination - Needle withdrawals and preoperative localization under mammographic guidance (stereotaxic and tomosynthesis) and, where considered useful, under RM guidance - - Organization of mammography screening - Communication and social skills
