Obtain the knowledge and skills for the odontostomatological, medical and surgical management of patients suffering from odontostomatological diseases and mucosal and bone pathologies of the oro-maxillofacial district.
knowledge of the epidemiology, diagnosis, prevention and therapy of dental caries, pulpopathies, apical periodontitis, perimaxillary and perimandibular abscesses and phlegmons;
ability to diagnose the most common painful pathologies of odontogenic origin and learn the fundamentals of their medical treatment, with the dosage of the most commonly administered drugs

Modalità di svolgimento dell'insegnamento

Frontal and theoretical-practical lessons, in-depth seminars, ADE;
Cooperative teaching (student-teacher) through sharing of teaching materials and multimedia supports.

If the teaching is taught in mixed or remote mode, the necessary variations may be introduced with respect to what was previously stated, in order to respect the program foreseen and reported in the Syllabus.

Medical management with knowledge of guidelines, operational protocols and pharmacological aspects of patients suffering from odontostomatological diseases. In particular:
Characteristics and function of the stomatognathic system
Notes on the anatomy of dental elements: structure and function
Pathology of the dentition: neodentary syndrome and disodontiasis of the third molars
Tooth eruption and change, Anomalies at the time of tooth eruption
Teeth anomalies: shape, volume, number, structure, position and location
Acquired lesions of the hard tissues of the tooth: abrasions, erosions
Dental traumatology (dislocations and fractures)
Dental caries: epidemiology – etiopathogenesis – macro and microscopic pictures of enamel and dentine caries. Carious cavities: prevention, filling materials, therapeutic options
Pulpopathies: classification, etiopathogenesis, symptoms, diagnosis and therapy
Periodontal disease: etiopathogenesis, symptoms, diagnosis and therapy
Periodontopathies: etiopathogenesis, anatomopathological picture, symptoms, diagnosis and therapy
Odontogenic osteitis of the jaws; perioral abscesses and phlegmons
Stomatomucositis
Dental malocclusions and Angle's classification.
Outlines of anatomy, physiology, pathology and therapy of the temporomandibular joint
Soft tissue tumors of the oral cavity
Cystic neoformations of the jaw bones and odontogenic tumors
Osteonecrosis of the jaws due to bisphosphonates

Modalità di verifica dell'apprendimento

The test consists of an interview in which n. questions that concern at least n. different topics of the program. The test allows you to verify: i) the level of knowledge of dentistry; ii) the ability to apply this knowledge to resolve specific problems relating to Dentistry (problem solving with independent judgement); iii) clarity of presentation; iv) the ownership of medical-scientific language.
The following parameters will be taken into account for the attribution of the final grade:
Score 29-30 cum laude: the student has an in-depth knowledge of Dentistry and is able to promptly and correctly integrate and critically analyze the situations presented, independently solving even highly complex problems; He has excellent communication skills and masters medical-scientific language.
Score 26-28: the student has a good knowledge of Dentistry, is able to integrate and analyze the situations presented in a critical and linear way, is able to solve complex problems quite autonomously and explains the topics clearly using medical language scientifically appropriate;
Score 22-25: the student has a fair knowledge of Dentistry, even if limited to the main topics; manages to integrate and analyze the situations presented in a critical but not always linear way and exposes the topics quite clearly with a good command of language;
Score 18-21: the student has minimal knowledge of dentistry, has a modest ability to integrate and critically analyze the situations presented and presents the topics in a sufficiently clear way although the language skills are poorly developed;
Exam not passed: the student does not have the minimum required knowledge of the main contents of the course. The ability to use specific language is very poor or non-existent and he is not able to apply the acquired knowledge independently.
