Expected Learning Outcomes

The course aims to compare and dialogue written forms with figurative ones through the methodological approach of visual culture studies

1) Knowledge and understanding

Know the cultural phenomena from the Middle Ages to the Contemporary; understand the processes of cultural transmission

2) Ability to apply knowledge and understanding

Through the course, students must be able to apply the ecphrastic method to any type of text and understand artistic phenomena through the methods of visual culture even on new and unfamiliar objects.

3) Autonomy of judgment

Students must be able to integrate knowledge and manage complex phenomena such as the ecphrastic one, formulating coherent judgments

4) Communication skills

Through the data, students must have the ability to communicate their knowledge and the underlying rationale in an appropriate language.

5) Learning skills

Study in a largely self-managed and autonomous way

Course Structure

Lectures with the help of images and ppt. Furthermore, the lessons will be organized in such a way as to stimulate debate and comparison through the presentation of individual works

Required Prerequisites

General knowledge of artistic developments in medieval, Renaissance and modern times. Basic knowledge of Romance literary culture

Attendance of Lessons

attendance is not compulsory, but recommended
