Expected Learning Outcomes

knowledge and understandig: Provide interpretations of the cultural evolution and the history of Islam as a religion, social institutions, and values in Islamic countries.

applying knowledge and understanding: By studying and analysing the history of Islam and the cultural aspects that characterize the Arab peoples, the student acquires knowledge of this civilization, which facilitates his relationship with others and facilitates the fieldwork of those who engage in the activity of cultural mediation.

making judgement: The ability to analyse text during the research and preparation of presentations during the course are a stimulus that strengthens the autonomy of the student's judgment.

communication skills: Through active participation during the lectures, seminars and presentations, students will acquire confidence, which strengthens its ability to communicate.

Detailed Course Content

The first part of the course is related to the period of the rise of Islam, its spread, the divisions between Sunni and Shi’a, Sufi and brotherhoods, the Qur’an and the šari‘a as a sources of Islamic law, the various schools of religious thought.

The second part studies those dictates of the Koran that have an effect on the social life of the believer such as, for example, matrimonial law and rules of succession.

Through a final oral test based on the following criteria:

Mastery of the topics, expository skills and knowledge of disciplinary vocabulary, ability to relate the knowledge acquired.

Knowledge and skills required to pass the examination

With reference to the determinations voted unanimously in point 2 of the Department Council meeting of 6 May 2020, and relating to measures to contain the number of out-of-school students, the knowledge and skills required to achieve a pass in the Islamistica examination are set out below.

- Ability to expound on the topics covered.

- Ability to analyse historical events.

- Ability to compare cultural aspects.

- Ability to interact on current topics by linking to historical facts.
