Learning Objectives

ENDOCRINOLOGY AND DERMATOLOGY - Module ENDOCRINOLOGY
- Endocrinology
  - Basic formative targets: fundamental knowledge of anatomy and physiology of endocrine and metabolic system; of mechanisms causing endocrine and metabolic diseases.
  - Formative targets of the class:
    - Gaining of fundamental theoretical knowledge needed for comprehension of endocrine system diseases (included pediatric and pubertal endocrinology, endocrine diseases of the elder and endocrinology and physiopathology of human reproduction), andrological diseases (prevention of couple infertility and techniques related to assisted reproduction) and metabolic diseases (childhood diabetes, gestational diabetes, prevention and management of chronic complications of diabetes mellitus, obesity, dyslipidemia);
    - Gaining of knowledge related to functional and instrumental endocrine/metabolic semeiotic ;
    - Gaining of theoretical knowledge needed to recognize the main diseases which constitute endocrine and metabolic emergencies;
    - Gaining of theoretical knowledge related to endocrine and metabolic aspects of childhood diseases, including congenital and neonatal disendocrine and dismetabolic forms of childhood and adolescence;
    - Gaining of theoretical knowledge related to endocrine alterations responsible for defects of reproductive activity of male and female, including infective, disendocrine, dismetabolic aspects of couple infertility;
    - Gaining of theoretical knowledge related to diagnosis of tumor diseases of endocrine glands and hormone-dependent tumors;
    - Gaining of theoretical knowledge related to epidemiology, prevention, differential diagnosis of the different forms of obesity and thinness;
    - Gaining of theoretical knowledge relative to epidemiology and primary and secondary prevention, diagnosis of the various forms of diabetes mellitus, including childhood diabetes and gestational diabetes, and diagnostic prevention and multidisciplinary treatment of risk factors for chronic complications of diabetes (ocular, nephrology, cardiovascular, etc.);
    - Gaining of theoretical knowledge related to prevention and diagnosis of lipid metabolism diseases.
Skin disorders and sexually transmitted diseases
The teaching of Cutaneous and Venereal Diseases aims primarily to provide the basics of anatomy and physiology of the skin, of visible mucous membranes and skin appendages, whose knowledge is essential for a correct clinical and diagnostic assessment. The student is then guided to the identification and classification of primary skin lesions and of the corresponding cutaneous disorders. In addition, the basic knowledge of the most modern diagnostic techniques allowing a rational and correct diagnosis will be provided. The histopathological correlations and the appropriate treatment options will also be considered. The course will finally focus on occupational dermatoses, skin cancer, and venereology (sexual transmitted diseases).
