STORIA DELLE AMERICHE

The course, focusing on the formation of American multi-ethnic societies, will allow students to mature a greater awareness towards the cultural diversity and to understand the relationship between past and present cultures. It will also allow to acquire expertise on: forms of domination; interaction between different cultural groups; definitions of belonging; structuring of territories

Lectures and seminars.

- European expansion and the formation of the Atlantic World; - The conquest of America and the definition of the “other”; - The shaping of Iberian, British and French empires in the Americas; - The integration of the Atlantic space: migrations, commerce, slavery and religion; - The emergence of racial categories; - Crises and dissolution of empire; - History and Culture of the United States at the beginning of the twentieth century .
