Knowledge of the geographical and historical contexts housing the most important testimonies of Semitic languages; groundings of Semitic linguistics in comparative perspective (phonology, morphology, syntax); knowledge of the main currents of thought in the scholarly discussion on Afro-Asiatic languages; knowledge and development of basic skills in reading and analyzing the most important script typologies used for Semitic languages.
1) Semitic linguistics (3 CFU): history of scholarship, a geographical and historical overview of Semitic languages, models of classification of Semitic languages, the Afro-Asiatic languages, scripts of Semitic languages.
2) First encounter with Semitic languages (3 CFU): samples of texts and scripts.
