Learning Objectives

The course aims to present a sketch of the Byzantine philology. It also shows that the Byzantine literature depends heavily on the reading and interpretation of the texts of the past. It provides some useful knowledge to investigate the events of transmission of the classics and the way in which they have come to us through the mediation of Byzantium.

Detailed Course Content

A sketch of Byzantine philology, with reading of Byzantine poems, particularly of Theodoros Prodromos; reading, translation, metrical analysis and philological commentary.
