HISTORY OF ART CRITICISM

The purpose of the course is to provide for students the instruments for a correct analysis methodology of the written sources of art history, through a historical and cultural overview on the sources themselves and the different authors

This course consists of a general section dedicated to history of art criticism from Vasari to the eighteenth-century and another section based on a deepening on the Vite de’ pittori messinesi by Francesco Susinno. It will be made with particular attention for seventeenth-century painting, for problems of restoration and conservation of the works, for the fortune of this text immediately measurable in the Memorie de’ pittori messinesi by Philipp Hackert and Gaetano Grano.
