By the history constitutionalist we want to retrace the milestones of emergence and the affirmation in Europe of the modern state and its political goals: restriction to the public authorities and protection of individual rights. Next to this "negative" role of constitutionalism, it is stated in contemporary an attitude that can be defined as participation in the sense that it contributes to the formation of a political power against whom he claims, to the same extent as before, limits and guarantees.
In the opening chapters of the book of M. Fioravanti will address the origins of constitutionalism , its claim to set limits to centralizing power and absolute . In this logic defensive and ' negative ' it is accompanied in the central part of the volume , scope all positive constitutionalism to contribute to the formation and construction of constitutional models against which claims the same limitations and the same guarantees of origin .
