Learning Objectives

Knowledge of main sociological perspectives and of basic concepts and areas of inquiring in Sociology.

Development of sociological sensitivity, improvement of analytical and critical skills in order to understand social processes. Special focus will be placed on empirical dimension and methodology of social research.

The second part of the course will be devoted to the sociological perspective of Symbolic interactionism

Symbolic interactionism: origins and methods of inquiring.

The three premises by Blumer.

Definition of the situation and reality construction

Role-taking and definition of self.

Reality transformations and defense mechanisms.
