Learning Objectives
The ability to read and vocalize texts in Standard Arabic;
Recognize and apply the basic grammar rules of Standard Arabic;
Recognize and use the main syntactic structures of Standard Arabic;
The ability to produce short and coherent texts on familiar and interesting topics, in both oral and written form;
The ability to translate sentences and texts from Arabic into Italian and vice versa;
The ability to use the Arabic keyboard;
The knowledge of the main figures of Arabic literature.
Course Structure
Lectures: 54 hours. Any exercises or equivalent assisted activities: 96 hours of assisted study and exercises carried out with native speakers.
Detailed Course Content
Module I (6 ects)
Grammar:
- Further analysis of the five nouns;
- degrees of the adjective;
- the hal clause
- the relative clause;
- Inna and its sisters;
- The sisters of kana;
- verba hamzatae;
- Verba geminata: (first form and main derived forms);
- conjugation and uses of IX form;
- declension of irregular nouns (–in and –an);
- collective nouns;
- adverbials of time and place;
- quadriliteral verb (I form);
- the passive of the triliteral verb;
- verba primae infirmae (I form and main derived forms);
- verba mediae infirmae (I form and main derived forms);
- verba ultimae infirmae (I form and main derived forms);
- the numerals from 11 to 99.
Literature:
- Arabic literature from the origins to the contemporary era.
- Analysis and commentary of texts from Modern and Contemporary Arabic literature.
Elements of the Arabic language spoken in Egypt.
Module II (3 ects)
Grammar:
- use of the dictionary and translation exercises.
Literature:
further analysis and commentary of texts from modern and contemporary Arabic literature.
