HISTORY OF MEDIEVAL AND MODERN ARCHITECTURE

Acquire an in-depth knowledge of some architectural contexts, particularly of medieval and modern times within the framework for the architectural history in Europe; to strengthen the critical tools and methods for the study of architectural production. An in-depth study will be devoted to examining the cathedrals of the Norman county in Sicily, especially in relation to contemporary sacred buildings in Calabria (11^th-12^th century).

Lecture format.

We anticipate a guided visit to monuments.

1. An advanced approach to the history of architecture.
2. Italian architectural production from the early Middle Ages to the beginning of the Gothic period, with particular reference to the Romanesque within its regional declinations.
3. Itinerary in modern architecture in Italy and Europe from the 15^th century to the 20^th century, through striking examples.
4. The cathedrals of the Norman county in Sicily and their relationship with Calabria.
