MUSIC DRAMATURGY

The course aims to give methodological tools for an appropriate knowledge on Musical Dramaturgy and to set the events of Musical Theater in the European History of Arts and Culture.

Frontal lessons.

The first part of the course will be devoted to the historical and methodological principles of the discipline and to the 19th Century Musical Dramaturgy. The second part will be dedicated to analysis of some important works of the 19th Century Musical Theatre. Finally the theme of the Regietheater will be addressed by the analysis of the Robert Carsen’s production of Don Giovanni (Milan, Teatro alla Scala, 2011) and the Federico Tiezzi’s production of Norma (Bologna, Teatro Comunale, 2013).
