Learning Objectives

Odontostomatology
The teaching is designed to guide and improve the student's approach to the patient with various non-specific diseases at the level of the oral cavity or craniofacial district and that needs a therapy addressed to the symptom, in addition to a diagnosis and therapy aimed at responsible pathology. Specific objectives are: 1) To achieve and obtain the optimal skills in the odontostomatological, medical and surgical management of patients suffering from odontostomatological diseases. 2) Reaching and obtaining the best skills in the diagnosis, prevention and medical and surgical treatment of the mucous and bone diseases of the gold-maxillofacial district.
Diseases of the Eye and Visual System
to provide knowledges on the pathophysiology, symptoms and signs of the diseases of the eye and of the visual system in children and adults

to give expertise in clinical diagnosis, functional and instrumental semeiotics, medical and surgical therapy.
Otolaryngology
Acquire the knowledge of the main ENT pathologies, in order to their centrality in the context of the human sensory faculties and the relevant degenerative pathologies

Course Structure

Odontostomatology
Lectures accompanied by slides and movies and supplemented by discussion of the topics treated in order to train students in a critical capacity on the topics and to acquire a knowledge suitable for odontostomatological management in patients affected by specific pathologies of the gold-maxillofacial district. Final exam with oral exam. Mandatory attendance at lessons to take the exam, as per the teaching regulations of the degree course

Odontostomatology
1) Features and function of the stomatognathic system. 2) Teeth anatomy outlines: structure and function. 3) Teeth pathology: neodentaria syndrome and impacted third molars. 4) Abnormalities of the tooth eruption stages. 5) Abnormalities of the teeth: shape, volume, number, structure, position and location. 6) Acquired lesions of tooth hard tissues: abrasion, erosion, dislocations and fractures. 7) Dental caries: epidemiology - etiology - macro and microscopic features of tooth enamel and dentin. Carious cavities: prevention, filling materials, therapeutic options. 8) Root canals pathologies: classification, etiology, symptomatology, diagnosis and therapy. 9) Periodontal ligament disease: etiology, symptomatology, diagnosis and therapy. 10) Periodontal disease: pathogenesis, pathological features, symptomatology, diagnosis and therapy. 11) Maxillary odontogenic osteitis; perioral abscesses and phlegmon. 12) Stomatitis. 13) Dental Malocclusion and Angle classification. 14) TemporoMandibular joint Disorders (TMD). 15) Soft tissues tumors of the oral cavity. 16) Cysts and odontogenic tumors of the jaw bones. 17) Bone OsteoNecrosis of the Jaws (BONJ) due to Bisphosphonates.

CORNEAL PATHOLOGY: Keratites - Keratoconus.

PATHOLOGIES OF THE LENS

PRIMARY AND SECONDARY GLAUCOMA: Pathophysiology of hydrodynamics of aqueous humor, diagnostics and therapy of glaucoma.

UVEAL PATHOLOGIES: Uveitis

RETINAL DISEASES: Macular degeneration - Vascular pathology - Retinal detachment - Diabetic retinopathy - Hypertensive retinopathy - Retinopathy of Prematurity (ROP) - other types of retinopathy.

PATHOLOGIES OF THE OPTIC NERVE: papillitis, optic neuritis, hemianopsia, quadranopsia, cortical blindness

OCULAR TUMORS: melanoma - retinoblastoma

OCULAR TRAUMATOLOGY: Foreign bodies - Corneal lesions - Acute retinal damages - Mechanical injuries of the ocular globe.
