The main objectives of the course are as follows:
-To provide essential knowledge on the physiopathology of the acute and chronic diseases (e.g. chronic intestinal disease, autoimmune diseases, diabetes, pancreatitis) and to identify their relationship and inter-dependency.
-To apply these skills to the full spectrum of diseases in human.
-To develop the transferable skills on acute and chronic diseases (including physiopathology, oral communication with patients, team work, decision making during diseases) between students and patients.
At the end of this course, the student should be able to successfully compile a medical record, collecting the medical history and the signs and symptoms of the patient, correlating them with the clinical picture. The student should be able to carry out a complete clinical examination of the thorax, abdomen and limbs, using all the possible tools and maneuvers to highlight a pathological process. The student, therefore, should be able to recognize a sign or a symptom and correlate them to a possible clinical diagnosis with a careful attention on the organ or apparatus likely affected. The student, moreover, should known the principles and possible applications of common imaging diagnostic techniques and their use as a useful tool to make a precise diagnosis.
Learning assessment may also be carried out on line, should the conditions require it.
