Learning Objectives

The course offers an investigation of the English language in the tourism domain. It aims to analyse the specialised language used in the tourism discourse and to highlight some mechanisms responsible for certain communicative effects. The analysis of the texts will be used as a reinforcement of the theoretical issues. The targeted language proficiency is B1+, based on the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages.


Course Structure

Lectures

Language practice classes with native speakers.

Students will be divided into the language classes according to their language competence.



Detailed Course Content

The course is divided into two modules.

Module A aims to introduce the basic notions of the specialised language, in particular on the ESP (English for Specific Purposes) and on the use of the English language in the tourism domain.

Module B focuses on the linguistic analysis of texts that belong to the domain of tourism discourse (travel articles, brochures, advertising, commercial and promotional websites).
