The course aims to reinforce students’ linguistic and communicative competences in English, with the hope of accompanying them to level C2 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages. The course also intends to provide students with diachronic awareness in order to improve their usage and knowledge of oral and written contemporary English and their translating skills.

The 36 hours in the teaching room (the total of the two modules, each of 18 hours) will take place over 18 classes of two hours' duration according to the timetable established at the beginning of the first semester. The first module will be devoted to diachronic linguistic analysis and the second one will deal with translation theory and practice.

The first module will be devoted to the evolution of the English language from Old English to Contemporary English including recent issues related to metrolingualism and Urban English. The second module will investigate theoretical, methodological and practical aspects of translation, also in a diachronic perspective.
