LITERATURA ESPAÑOLA

Based on reading and analysis of selected texts, this course aims to develop the student’s critical understanding of Spanish literature, from the end of the 18th century to the 20th century.

The course focuses upon the different literary trends, the aesthetic conceptions and the expressive techniques that conform this literary panorama.

Expected learning outcomes:

knowledge and understanding:

The students will gain a knowledge of the concept of “literary genre” in literary studies and of the cultural debate about it.

They will be able to dentify and describe the trends, movements, authors and literary works of Spanish literature during the studied period.

making judgement:

The student will be able to make a critical reading of academic texts and to express a critical judgement.

Comunication skills:

The student will be able to articulate central course concepts and express them, orally, in formal presentations or in clearly written and well-argued papers.

learning skills:

The student will be able to further extend his/her knowledge, skills an undestanding through continued studies.

Lectures, seminars, videoconferences

The course will be held in Spanish and will be centred both on the literary strains and tendencies and the most representative figures of peninsular Spanish contemporary literature. Throughout the course, students will read and analyze works of prose and poetry with a consideration of their cultural, social, historical and philosophical context.

The course explicitly addresses each of the following themes:

Tema 1: La crisis de fin de siglo y el tránsito al siglo XX

Tema 2: Novecentismo, Vanguardias y Grupo del 27

Tema 3: Rumbos de la poesía de 1936 a 1975

Tema 4: Avatares de la novela, de la posguerra al 1975

Tema 5: dos calas en la literatura de la transición a la actualidad.
