Learning Objectives

Through the previous knowledge students will be ables to read and understand original texts of contemporary literature. Thanks to the methodologies applied and reused by themselves, the students will present written or oral presentation of some arguments analyzing Arabic novels, short stories or plays. They will be enable to communicate and recognize the representation of the selfness and the main discourse produced by the ideological thought throughout the XIX and XX centuries in Arabic literature.


Course Structure

The course is divided into: lectures, lessons for comparison and reading of texts in Arabic, group analysis and oral reports in the class, individual analysis and written reports.



Detailed Course Content

The course focus on the socio-cultural and literary situation of some Arab countries (Egypt, Palestine), on the formation a of the Arab novel Canon. The analysis and the birth of the idea of Nation and his literary representation, also reading and analysing of original parts of Arabic modern novels and short stories.
