Learning Objectives

Acquisition of knowledge related to the characterization of the territory on the basis of geological, geomorphological and tectonic structure. Ability to estimate the environmental risk through the study of the hazard factors of the events related to the main geological and geomorphological processes.

Ability to read linear and areal elements on geological maps; ability to read and interpret the legend of geological maps, at various scales, aimed at the reconstruction of the tectono-stratigraphic structure of the studied area. Interpretation of large scale geological data, for the landscape and the environment conservation.

The two laboratory credits (24 hours) consist of three excursions on the field: i) Catania and province ii) Oriented nature reserve “Isola Bella" - Taormina; iii) protected area Pachino-Portopalo-Isola di Capo Passero; iv) World Geosite "Diatrema di Costa Giardini" Sortino).
