The course has the declared objective of providing adequate knowledge and understanding in relation to the following topics:
The "Geological regulation" class aims to provide an overview of the codes and standards regulating the different technical-professional activities of a geologist, starting from the fundamental ethical principles of the professional figure and analyzing different practical applications in the profession (e.g. drafting of a geological report, application of rules on environmental contamination, study of rockfalls, etc ...).
Part I: Remediation and monitoring interventions in landslides
Decree Law 180/98: risk mitigation
Control methods, main types of monitoring in landslide areas: inclinometers, strain gauges, distometers, cracks, joint meter, open tube piezometers and Casagrande
Stabilization of landslide areas Works to control surface erosion.
Support works. gravity and flexibility. Shovels and bulkheads. Cellular walls. gabions
Improvement of the physical and mechanical characteristics of the lands and rocks. Vibroflotation. Dynamic compaction. Injections. Jet grouting. Micropali
Active and passive interventions in rocky slopes.
Surface and deep drainage.
Hydraulic-forestry interventions
Part II: Consolidated Environmental Law D.Lgs.152 / 06 and protection of underground water resources
Consolidated Environmental Law D.Lgs.152 / 06
Environmental impact assessment (EIA); environmental impact study (SIA); Strategic Environmental Assessment (SEA).
Environmental matrices and definition of contamination threshold concentration (CSC) and risk (CRR).
Water Code Legislative Decree 152/2006, Protection of quantitative and qualitative water resources
Review of hydrogeology. Main hydrodynamic parameters for the quantitative assessment of groundwater resources.
Qualitative evaluation: hydrochemistry of groundwater, main plot graphs, hydrochemical facies.
Part III: Risk analysis of contaminated sites, environmental monitoring and remediation methods
Risk analysis of contaminated sites. Sites of national interest (SIN). Characterization plan. Investigations for the characterization of the site. The development of contamination. Propagation mechanisms.
Sampling and investigation for the determination of CSR. Role of Control Bodies.
Remediation methods for contaminated soils: stabilization / solidification interventions; thermal desorption; phytoremediation; bioventing and biosparging; Soil Vapor Extraction; Soil washing
Methods for reclamation of contaminated water: Pump and Treat, Reactive Permeable Barriers; Air Sparging; Multiphase extraction
Part IV: Realization of a geological report - topics that must contain the report and graphic drawings
Classes will be held, from a general point of view, in person, with the help of multimedial material (slides) and/or notes. A practical exercise on the draft of a technical geological report will be carried out.
Nevertheless, considering the uncertain situation due to COVID-19, remote classes might be set, on multimedial platforms. In this case, some changes on what previously reported may occur, in order to comply with the program reported in syllabus.
