Learning Objectives

The course focuses on the study of the rise of modern nation-state, international conflicts and conflict resolution and on the review of key periods in the history of international relations and international law from 1814 to 1945.

Frontal lessons.



Detailed Course Content

International relations: themes and theories; sovereignty and nation-states; war at the sea and the law of neutrality; arbitration and international cooperation; the Congress of Vienna and Concert of Europe; international actors and the distinction between uncivilized, semi-civilized, civilized countries; public opinion support; the First World War; the League of Nations; the crisis and end of the Ottoman Empire; the Great Depression; the international crises of the 1930s; the Second World War.
