B. IN DEPTH-ANALYSIS 3 cfu
Disapproval of feminine intellectuality in 19th century French literature
This course is focused on the representation of women with intellectual interests in 19th century French society: an itinerary through literary and not-literary works, that have been published throughout the century. The purpose of this course will be to unveil the prejudice toward the "corruptive" access of mothers and young ladies to reading novels, show the diffidence toward the aspirations of women who wanted to compete with men in literature and journalism, and recreate the menace with which this "improvident" vocation weighted on family stability.
