Learning Objectives

The course aims to present a sketch of the Byzantine philology. It also shows that the Byzantine literature depends heavily on the reading and interpretation of the texts of the past. It provides some useful knowledge to investigate the events of transmission of the classics and the way they came to us through the mediation of Byzantium.

Frontal Lessons on Byzantine 'Resignation's poetry', with reading, translation, and philological commentary of Nicholas Muzalon's poem.
