Learning Objectives

Odontostomatology
The teaching is designed to guide and improve the student's approach to the patient with various non-specific diseases at the level of the oral cavity or craniofacial district and that needs a therapy addressed to the symptom, in addition to a diagnosis and therapy aimed at responsible pathology. Specific objectives are: 1) To achieve and obtain the optimal skills in the odontostomatological, medical and surgical management of patients suffering from odontostomatological diseases. 2) Reaching and obtaining the best skills in the diagnosis, prevention and medical and surgical treatment of the mucous and bone diseases of the gold-maxillofacial district.

Specifically, the teaching is designed to provide the master's degree in Medicine and Surgery with the basic notions of epidemiology, diagnosis, prevention and therapy of dental caries, pulpopathies, apical periodontitis, abscesses and perimascellar and perimandibular phlegmons. The student must acquire the ability to diagnose the most common pain diseases of odontogenic origin and learn the basics of the medical treatment of the same, with the dosage of the most common drugs. The student must also be able to know the notions useful to perform a dental implant and to direct the patient to the next dental treatment and acquire the general notions that lead to the diagnosis of a malocclusion, prescribing the most appropriate radiological examinations.

The acquired skills will lead the student to develop a critical capacity on the topics dealt with using the competences in an active way for diagnostic and therapeutic purposes in the management of the patient suffering from odontostomatological diseases.
Eye Disease
to provide knowledges on the pathophysiology, symptoms and signs of the diseases of the eye and of the visual system in children and adults

to give expertise in clinical diagnosis, functional and instrumental semeiotics, medical and surgical therapy.
Otorhinolaryngology
Knowledge of the notions of specialist anatomy-physiology and of the main pathologies of the ear, nose and paranasal sinuses, pharynx, larynx and salivary glands.

Course Structure

Odontostomatology
Medical management of systemic diseases with the knowledge of guidelines, operational protocols and pharmacological aspects of the patient suffering from odontostomatological diseases.

In particular:
- Characteristics and function of the stomatognathic apparatus
- Elements of anatomy of dental elements: structure and function
- Dentition pathology: Syndrome and Third molars impactions
- Abnormalities of the era of dental eruption
- Anomalies of the teeth: of shape, volume, number, structure, position and seat
- Acquired lesions of hard tooth tissues: abrasions, erosions, dislocations and fractures
- Dental caries: epidemiology - etiopathogenesis - macro and microscopic pictures of enamel and dentin caries. Carious cavities: prevention, obturation materials, therapeutic options
- Pulp diseases: classification, etiopathogenesis, symptomatology, diagnosis and therapy
- Periodontal Disease: etiopathogenesis, symptomatology, diagnosis and therapy
- Periodontology: etiopathogenesis, anatomic pathology, symptomatology, diagnosis and therapy
- Odontogenic osteitis of the jaws; abscesses and perioral phlegmon
- Stomatomucositis
- Dental malocclusions and classification of Angle and Temporo-Mandibular Articulation disorders
- Soft tissue tumors of the oral cavity
- Cystic neoformations of the maxillary bones and odontogenic tumors
- Osteonecrosis of the bisphosphonate jaws

PATHOLOGY OF ORBIT AND ANNEXES: Exophthalmos - Blepharitis - Conjunctivitis - DacriocistitiS.

CORNEAL PATHOLOGY: Keratites - Keratoconus.

PATHOLOGIES OF THE LENS

PRIMARY AND SECONDARY GLAUCOMA: Pathophysiology of hydrodynamics of aqueous humor, diagnostics and therapy of glaucoma.

UVEAL PATHOLOGIES: Uveitis

RETINAL DISEASES: Macular degeneration - Vascular pathology - Retinal detachment - Diabetic retinopathy - Hypertensive retinopathy - Retinopathy of Prematurity (ROP) - other types of retinopathy.

PATHOLOGIES ODF THE OPTIC NERVE: papillitis, retrobulbar neuritis, hemianopsia, quadranopsia, cortical blindness.

OCULAR TUMORS: melanoma - retinoblastoma

OCULAR TRAUMATOLOGY: Foreign bodies - Corneal lesions - Acute retinal damages - Mechanical injuries of the ocular globe.
Otorhinolaryngology
Inflammatory and neoplastic ENT disease. Principles of clinical and instrumental diagnosis. Principles of medical and surgical treatment.
