Learning Objectives

Knowledge and understanding
The course introduces students to the fundamentals of European Union Law and provide them the tools to develop a critical view of the European integration process and its own dynamics. The course aims, therefore, to contribute to the knowledge of the legal system of the European Union in its current and concrete way of being and working, from the side of the citizen and from his/her ability to effectively enforce the rights raising from the EU legal system.
Applying knowledge and understanding
The purpose of the course is to enable students to demonstrate knowledge and understanding that extend and/or strengthen the skills acquired; to develop and / or apply original ideas, even in a research context; to apply knowledge, understanding and ability to solve legal problems; to integrate knowledge and handle complexity, including reflecting on social and ethical responsibilities linked to the application of their knowledge and judgments; to clearly communicate findings and knowledge to specialist and non-specialist operators.


Course Structure

The Course is structured in 9 Taught Seminars. Students regularly attending the course are expected to develop problem solving skills at a first level (simple practical cases solving)

Should teaching be carried out in mixed mode or remotely, changes may occur, if necessary, with respect to previous statements, in line with the programme planned and outlined in the Syllabus



Detailed Course Content

The course is a short introduction to EU Law and shall focus on the dynamics of european integration and on European Citizenship

I. EU Law and the European International Law

II. Institutional framework of the EU, Sources of EU Law, The EU Judicial System: Structure, Functions and Procedure

III. Autonomies and Freedoms in Europe
