Learning Objectives

Knowledge and Understanding
The knowledge of the Roman private law (VIII century b. Chr. – VI century a. Chr.) and the understanding of it by its sources and main institutions in their historical development.
Capability to apply knowledge and understanding
Getting the historical element as a fundamental part of the legal knowledge. The capability to understand the legal phenomenon will be primarily stimulated on a historical basis in accordance with the tradition of Civil Law
Judgment autonomy
In the context of the great and centuries-old debates among the Roman jurists, the autonomy of judgement is encouraged by the constant emphasis on the discordant opinions inside the Roman jurisprudence. In this regard the more or less lasting institutional solutions show the underlying different opinions and legislative stances.
Communication skills
The communicative skill is encouraged underlining the particularity of the juridical language together with the attention to words, phrases and constructs that, although belonging to the everyday language, often sound as incomprehensible or little comprehensible. In this context it is useful the approach to the etymology that unveils to the students outcomes at hands by reflecting on the origin and history of the words.
Learning ability
The learning ability is determined and guided by a constant work of advice during the everyday teaching and the seminar meetings. This advisory work takes into account the students involved are beginners under the point of view of the university learning.

The sources of Roman private Law and the Interpretatio iuris. Personae and res. Natural persons and their legal status and activities. Economical-patrimonial rights over things.The civil trials in their historical succession. Legal transactions and agreements. Possession. Ownnership. Iura in re aliena. Law of agreements and Law of torts. Damnum. The Law of Succession.
