Learning Objectives

CHIRURGIA GENERALE
1) Introduce and guide the student to the knowledge of the pathologies of surgical interest to the physiopathology, to the symptomatology to the main diagnostics, to the surgical therapy.

2) Knowledge of the main perioperative problems of patients operated on for the main interventions.

3) Knowledge of patient preparation for interventions and perioperative monitoring.
UROLOGIA
Goals : The course aims to provide students with the essentials knowledge of the main urological and andrological disease, the clinical course and the complications. At the end of the course, the student should know the basics of the main urological and andrological diseases and their diagnostic evaluation and the principal surgical and medical treatment.
Radiodiagnostic
The student should know main methods and machines used in diagnostic imaging; to understande the diagnostic process of main diseases; to learn how to prepare patients before radiodiagnostic procedures, namely when contrast administration is required

Course Structure

CHIRURGIA GENERALE
1) Theoretical lectures with integration of methodological clinical reasoning based on the pathophysiology of diseases and clinical pictures,

2) Presentation of real, particular and common clinical cases with images of patients and iconography of diagnostic tests and intraoperative findings.

3) Films of surgical interventions to demonstrate the real findings of diagnostics and clinical cases

4) WHERE possible: Small group internship at the Surgical Clinic UOC and at the Pronto

Rescue / MCAU -

If the teaching is given in a mixed or remote mode, the necessary changes may be introduced with respect to what was previously stated, in order to respect the program envisaged and reported in the syllabus

CHIRURGIA GENERALE
1) Hernias and hernias. Generaltà and treatment classification

2) Biliary pathology, calculosis, general jaundice and treatment classification

3) Surgical pathology of the esophagus and GERD reflux disease

4) Intestinal obstruction

5) Abdominal ostomies

6) Acute pancreatitis General, physiopathology.

7) Hypovolemic and septic shock - Generality, etiopathogenesis and treatment

8) Neoplastic pathology of the digestive system. Generalities and symptoms

9) Hemorrhagic syndromes of the digestive system (portal hypertension, esophageal varices, melaena, rectorhagia

10) Appendicitis, diverticulitis, cholecystitis and peritonitis

11) Diverticular disease of the colon

13) Polytrauma and abdomen trauma. Generalities, definitions of pre- and in-hospital management complications

14) Drains / SNGs / Catheters
UROLOGIA
1. Anomalies of urinary tract: hypospadias, epispadias, megaureter, ureterocele, posterior urethral

valves, ureteropelvic junction obstruction, cystic disease;

2. Haematuria: etiology, other sources of haematuria;

3. Urinary tract infections (lower and upper UTI) including:

a. Tubercolosis;

b. Sexually Transmitted Infections (like HPV);

4. Urolithiasis: etiology, diagnosis, medical and surgical management;

5. Urinary incontinence: continence mechanism, urodynamics, neurological bladder, urinary

incontinence in women;

6. Lower urinary tract obstruction:

a. Uretral stenosis;

b. LUTS (lower urinary tract symptons): storage and voiding symptoms;

c. Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia: IPSS score, medical and surgical management;

7. Prostate cancer: PSA and other molecular biomarkers, diagnosis, medical and surgical

management;

8. Neoplasms of kidney and upper urinary tract, renal cysts;

9. Neoplasms of the bladder: diagnosis, disease management;

10. Neoplasms of the testis;

11. Pathologies of the scrotum: testicular torsion, hydrocele, varicocele;

12. Kidney trauma.

- Radiodiagnostic (radiobiology, radioprotection, principles of justification and optimization)
- Imaging procedures
- X-rays production (definition and application of X-ray tube); properties of ionizing radiations (photoelectric effect, Compton effect, ionizations mechanism);
- Computed Tomography (CT) scanner; (background, evolution, models, components of CT room scanner);
- Contrast media (classification: radiographic, sonographic, MRI); use of contrast media; adverse reactions;
- Principles and machines used in Ultrasonography (clinical applications in maternal-fetal contest, etc); clinilcal applications of ultrasonography in adults (liver, spleen, abdominal, thyroid US, etc);
- Principles of MRI (Magnetic Resonance Imaging); MRI scanner; absolute and relative controindications for patients before MRI;
- Diagnostic process for respiratory disease (pneumothorax, trauma, hemoptysis, pneumonitis, neoplasia, enphysema, pulmonary nodule, pleural effusion); anatomy of chest radiography;
- Diagnostic process for main gastrointestinal diseases (jaundice, cholecystitis, appendicitis, Crohn);
- Abdominal X-ray in Emergency Room; imaging of gastrointestinal diseases;
- Imaging of main uro-genital diseases (renal lithiasis; non-neoplastic and neoplastic bladder diseases; prostate disease; ovarian diseases, scrotal diseases);
- Imaigng of SNC disease;
- Radiotherapt and Nuclear Medicine: principles and applications
