Course Structure

Frontal lessons and seminars activities.

Detailed Course Content

A. Narrations and descriptions: New World(3CFU)

The first module, focused on the Early Renaissance and its role in the

construction of a notion of universal culture, will explore the fears of a

period only on the surface governed by harmony. Through the support of

historical and iconographic sources, the students will explore the political

and cultural tensions of the age, mainly caused by the discovery of the

New World and the relationship with new civilizations.

B. Narrations and descriptions: the enemy (3 CFU)

The second one will deepen some watershed moments of early modern

history thanks to an iconographic path that will use visual sources as

emblems of these crucial moments. That will lead to an explanation of this

methodological choice, but also to the understanding of how powerful the

communication through visual arts is and how deep is their tie to politics

and society.
