Learning Objectives

The course aims to provide the student with the concepts of graphic communication and industrial technical design, so that the same is able to represent, even through the freehand sketch and to interpret, through the reading of drawings, individual components and assembled of machines, identifying their technological and functional shapes and characteristics. The design should never be an end in itself, but must provide a clear and unambiguous representation of the designer's idea, allowing the realization and subsequent testing. The student must also acquire a first knowledge of the standardized functional components of the machines and the design procedures. The study of the insertion of technical documentation into the product life cycle is a characteristic element of the course. Finally, the basic elements of Computer Graphics and solid modeling will be illustrated, as they are the modern and current alternative to the classical tools of manual design. The objectives set by the course through the planned didactic activities are included in the training project of the CdS and will allow the student to acquire a design methodology necessary for the industrial engineer.

Course Structure

The course includes lectures, during which the direct participation of the student is frequently requested. Practical exercises are planned in order to allow the student to acquire the necessary skills for the training of the industrial designer. Every year a guided tour is planned to illustrate to the students mechanical components that are studied during the course. All in perfect coherence with the training objectives of the course.
