Undestanding the dynamics of the spatial organization of the city.

Analyzing the contemporary city functions and problems.

The discipline will be carried out trough lectures. In order to deepen some topics, the professor will be the person leading the field trips.

Definition of the city- distinction between city and rural areas- forma urbis - the town before the industrial revolution - urban expansion after the industrial revolution - forms of urbanization - gentrification - urban functions - problems of the contemporary city - urban policies – land consumption and environmental impact in the city - urban landscape and sustainable development.
